WellyCon 2010

Wellycon 2010 is on from

10am - 10pm Saturday August 14

10am - 4pm Sunday August 15

at St Pats College, Kilbirnie, Wellington

Saturday afternoon 2.30 - 4.00 : Kids time, special section and session for the family ($2 only).

Saturday evening 7.30 - 8.30 : Wits and Wagers team tournament using New Zealand designed questions and the Kids version rules.

Cost is $5 per person per day.

Register for either the Saturday, Sunday or the weekend by confirming your attendance on the Wellycon BoardGameGeek Forum and you will receive a free Wellycon custom die. Last years dice sold out quickly, so registration is a great way to guarantee you get one of these hot commodities. It will also get you a customised name badge for the weekend.

Although the venue is the same as the past you can expect a different set up and some improvements to the venue. More space, more people, more gaming.

Last year there were more than 300 games, but as always if you get in touch with the organisers they will make sure a particular game is there for you to play.

JULY 2010 NEWSLETTER

BOARD GAMES EVENING at the GAME SHOP

The next games night is on Friday 16th July 2010, at All Aboard Games & Toys, 33 Fitzherbert St, Featherston. As usual we will start off at 7.00pm, with games until the last person leaves (around 11pm).

There is a $2 cover charge and please bring your own drink, glass, and any special games that you wish to play. We will provide chairs, tables, some nibbles, games and our outstanding hospitality.

For those who wish to have a meal before the games, we suggest that the Royal Hotel would be a good place to meet at around 6pm.

I’m still recovering from my third loss in a row playing Ghost Stories at the last games night - at least I didn’t die this time. It was exciting to have so many people at the games night in June. Fortunately we had enough chairs and tables to accommodate everyone, as there were about 30 gamers at one stage during the evening.

Some of the games that we want to play at the next evening are Forbidden Island, Samarkand, Mystery Express, Thebes and Bacchus Banquet.

We would love to see you all at this games night.

For more information contact:  Robyn or Graham at All Aboard, 33 Fitzherbert Street, Featherston,

New Games in Store

Forbidden Island - Cooperative game, collect the treasures and get off the island before it sinks!Forbidden Island $34.90 - This game is designed by Matt Leacock, who also designed Pandemic (our favourite co-operative game, until we played Forbidden Island). We like Forbidden Island because it is more accessible than Pandemic - i.e. Quicker to set up and play, simple rules and game play (which makes it easier to play with children) and the components store nicely in the game tin, but it is just as hard to win against the game. There is a palpable sense of tension as the island gradually disappears, the treasures are just about collected and everyone has to get back to the helicopter pad. Will everyone make it in time? Not surprisingly this won the Mensa Select Award this year. We are expecting stocks of this game later in the week.

Samarkand - Routes to Riches $99.90 - In this Spiel des Jahres recommended game, rich merchants and their families ply the Silk Route of the Orient with their caravans in order to make lucrative business. The players assume the role of traders who marry into other families to extend their influences. Who will be the richest merchant?

Nelly Nilpferd  $99.90 - A pretty and fun children’s dexterity game for the whole family. For ages 6 and up.

Mystery Express $99.90 - “Mystery Express is a very entertaining game... Thematically it really evokes the classic tales by Agatha Christie, and - as always - the presentation is second-to-none. Days of Wonder releases never fail to impress with their components, and Mystery Express is one of their most beautiful games. Everything from the board to the cards look great...” Michael Fox, BoardGameGeek.com.

Fresco $99.90 - The ceiling in the cathedral is getting on a bit and is in urgent need of restoration. The bishop is awaiting important visitors and wants to show off his church from its best side. The players slip into the role of the fresco painters in this colourful family game and have to prove their abilities: But only the player who plans cleverly can win! One of the top five games nominated for the Spiel des Jahres this year.
